The development history of hoodie sweatshirts in the United States can be traced back to the early 20th century. The early stage was roughly from the early 20th century to the 1970s. During this period, sweatshirts initially appeared as practical sportswear. At the beginning of the 20th century, some sports brands in the United States began to produce sports tops with hoods to provide additional warmth and protection. These early sweatshirts were mainly used for outdoor sports and exercise rather than as fashion items. During that period, American brands such as Champion, Russell Athletic, and Hanes produced a large number of sweatshirt products.

This 1940s-style sweatshirt is made of 550 grams of heavyweight cotton, with terry pile on the back, and is made on an antique cylinder machine. This old-fashioned machine is rarely used in modern production. The result is a full body of tubular fabric with a seamless middle. The overall style restores the short style of the 1940s, with separate pockets, long threads, a half-open zipper on the chest, and a hood with a typical retro structure.

We analyzed the weaving density, sewing methods, and sewing width dimensions of sweatshirt fiber fabrics from the 1940s. Through repeated research and observation, we restored the characteristics of that era and used old-fashioned machines to restore production. As the wearing time changes, the retro texture will appear, which is the charm of retro sweatshirts.
