WINTERCOMBAT2STTYPE, also known as the second-generation tank jacket, is an improved version of the first-generation tank jacket, with the pocket position changed to an oblique insertion. It first appeared during World War II and was primarily designed for tank crews and armored vehicle crews. They provide protection and warmth for the tank crew, as well as comfort and convenience, and the accordion pleats on the back are an iconic design. They have become an iconic garment in war history and culture, often associated with World War II tank warfare and military style. This kind of jacket is usually made of strong and durable cotton material with good wear resistance and protective properties. Some jacket styles may also use a wool-blend material to provide extra warmth
There are two versions of Tanker Jacket in history, named Ist and 2nd versions. The first generation tank jacket was probably born in 1940. It is characterized by the use of khaki single yarn twill fabric with a weight of about 285 grams. The collar and hem cuffs are made of wool thread. The door and placket use a metal zipper. In the early days, the lining was made of matching
The thickness is similar to the material used in early US military blankets. The design of the tank jacket is a short one, taking into account the special environment faced by tank troops. The upper and lower thread design makes it convenient for wearing the helmet and makes it more comfortable to fight in tanks and armored vehicles. It is more flexible and the woolen fabric inside ensures warmth in cold conditions.
The tank jackets of the early 1940s used the same lining material as the thick blankets of the US military back then. We used about 88% wool blended wool to restore the weave, thickness and color of the original lining material.
We spent half a year researching and developing to restore the woolen lining used in tank jackets back then. As a high-end replica, we hope that the replica clothes can be as close as possible to the historical version, because in each particular era, the fabrics used, the zippers, and other details of the military uniforms are all important factors that make it a classic. The woolen used on this kind of tank jacket has historically been common in brown and green.
Historically, the most common zippers used in tank jackets were TALON M42. We use original style retro zippers processed and produced by Japanese brands. The pure cotton webbing zipper is characterized by an asymmetrical diamond base. This kind of zipper is rarely seen on the market today. After time of use, it will show the true color of brass.
The tank jacket was widely used during World War II and became one of the iconic garments of armored soldiers. These soldiers assume critical roles in combat, and their clothing needs to meet their specific needs for working inside or with tanks. An interesting phenomenon is that before the B-10 flight suit was developed, some pilots of the Army Aviation did not have warm flight jackets. During that period, they wore such tank jackets to perform flight missions.
